#87 A Year into Data Engineering: The Highs and Lows of the Journey
It has been quite a while since I dove into the world of Data Engineering, tackling data challenges and diving into the cloud computing. There’s a bunch to pat myself on the back for and a load of wisdom to stash away as I level up my Data Engineering game in the coming years. I want to kick things off by sharing my journey, not only to reflect on the strides I’ve made but also to ignite the spark in aspiring Data Engineers. Plus, for those fellow Data Engineers who might be facing similar challenges, here’s a friendly reminder to watch out for those pitfalls!

Dedication to data engineering career path
To be honest, working full-time and studying part-time suck. It aint no easy game for everyone, and especially when you are working as a data engineer and spend most of your time fixing data issues (imagine your cortisol level). I can count up to 4 times that I want to quit studying and keep my mind only on working, wondering the whole point of learning all these new cloud computing technology and such. But dear lord who knows, I DON’T GIVE MYSELF UP. Discipline is the key my friend. I have accomplished 14 cloud certifications in 12 months, self-taught myself AWS services and how they together make a robust solution crafted for a particular scenerio, learnt networking, learnt Snowflake and worked with Azure services flawlessly. Still a lot more to learn and achieve!
